Frequently asked questions

What is an M3U8 file?
An M3U8 file is a plain-text playlist used by HTTP Live Streaming (HLS). It lists video segments — and optionally multiple quality variants — which the player downloads and stitches into one smooth, adaptive stream. It is the standard format for live channels and much of on-demand video on the web.
Is this online M3U8 player really free?
Yes — 100% free, forever. No signup, no watermark, no daily limit, and nothing to install. It runs entirely in your browser using the open-source hls.js engine (with Apple's native HLS engine on iPhones and iPads).
Why does my M3U8 stream fail to play?
The most common cause is CORS: the server hosting the stream must allow browser access from other websites, and not every provider does. Streams can also refuse playback because of expiring tokens, geo-restrictions or paywalls. Note that this tool is a player only — it never downloads or records streams.
Do you store or upload my stream links?
No. Your browser talks to the stream server directly. Your recent links are saved only in your own browser's local storage for convenience, and you can clear them at any time by clearing site data.
Can I watch live HLS streams with it?
Yes. Live streams show a LIVE badge, play near the edge with automatic latency handling, and — when the broadcaster provides a DVR window — you can rewind through the recent minutes and jump back to live with one tap.
Does it work on iPhone, Android and desktop?
Yes. The layout adapts to any screen. On Android and desktop the open-source hls.js engine handles playback; on iPhone and iPad Safari plays HLS natively. Quality menus appear whenever the stream itself offers multiple variants.
