Frequently asked questions

What MP4 codecs are supported?
MP4 is a container; what matters is the codec inside. H.264 video with AAC audio — by far the most common combination — plays in every modern browser. HEVC (H.265) depends on hardware and browser support, and AV1 works in newer builds. If a file silently fails, it almost certainly uses a codec your browser lacks; re-encoding to H.264 fixes it.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No — and this is the core promise of the tool. Files chosen from your device are read locally by your own browser through an object URL; the data never leaves your computer. Remote links are streamed directly from their source to you. There is no upload step at all.
Is this online MP4 player really free?
Yes — 100% free, forever. No signup, no watermark, no file size limit and nothing to install. The player uses the native HTML5 video engine of your browser, which is also the fastest and most battery-friendly option.
Why won't a remote MP4 link play?
Direct links (ending in .mp4) work best. Links can fail because they are expired or private, because the server geo-blocks visitors, or because it blocks hotlinking from other websites — many CDNs only allow their own player pages to fetch the file. Note this tool never downloads videos; it only plays them.
Can I change playback speed or loop the video?
Yes. The speed menu covers 0.25× to 2×, and the loop button (or the LOOP badge you can toggle) restarts the video automatically when it ends — useful for practice, transcription checks, and quick previews.
Does it work on iPhone, Android and desktop?
Yes. The layout adapts to any screen, and MP4/H.264 is the single most universally supported format across iOS, Android, Windows and macOS browsers. Picture-in-Picture and fullscreen work on all modern platforms.
